Ultralight Fishing Kit

Thought this was very interesting — a tenkura style fly fishing kit weighing only 6 oz. Almost makes me want to learn fly fishing…the idea of catching my food on a backpacking trip is very intriguing.

That’s cool. I actually got a fly rod at a garage sale this past weekend! May take it up to Faraday Lake this weekend to test it out. I’ve got the formula for some great smoked trout dialed in.

I know a guy who went on a week-long canoe trip in the Ozark Mountains, and his buddies packed their fishing gear thinking they’d just catch their food. He packed some normal trail food in a dry bag, and his friends gave him all sorts of crap for it. Well, lo and behold, his friends were so hungry by the end of the second day of paddling with no food, that he had to share his food, and aborted the trip at the halfway point.

I’d take the fly fishing kit as a backup, and if you got lucky, it’s a bonus! Campfire-roasted trout rocks, too!

I’m not big on fishing (and I’ve never fly fished) but the idea of a fishing kit that weighs so little, and of catching some food along the trail, appeals greatly to me…I’d have to believe very strongly in my fishing skills to trust it as my only source of food (or be very familiar with the area I’m fishing).
